‘A Greek Myth Remix – Paintings by Erika Meriaux’

‘A GREEK MYTH REMIX   – Paintings by Erika Meriaux’

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – May 1 – 30, 2010 – Femina Potens invites you to reflect on the allegory of the feminine. This May we examine how the story-telling has shaped the women in today’s society.  We invite you to enjoy the paintings of Artist, Erika Meriaux as we presents her one woman show, ‘Greek Myths’.

Meriaux current body of work is a contemporary reinterpretation of  Greek myths. Her  figurative oil paintings examines women in mythology.  Each  of her delicately brushed characters come to life on the canvas, representing whimsical, dark and often twisted tales.  Her paintings drip with sweet tragedy and heroism that lend to an understanding of the unique importance of the feminine in Greek story-telling.  Greek mythology suggest the ultimate options for women to escape patriarchal oppression was often death or magic metamorphosis. Meriaux’s retelling of these tales illustrates how history and even lore is often reflected in our current cultural values.

Join us May 1st as we celebrate Meriaux’s modern take on Greek Mythology at our Opening Reception at 7pm.  Enjoys treats and spirits as we revel in fantastical fables of valiant and deplorable characters. Get to meet the woman behind all of these painted masterpieces.  Delve further into the work the following day for Meriaux’s Artist Lecture at 3pm on Sunday May 2.  Show runs through May 30, 2010.
