Mission Statement

At Femina Potens our paramount vision is empowerment: empowerment for the artist, the viewer, and the community by creating a safe space where gender, identity and sex is naturally fluid and changing. We are dismantling the rigid barrier between audiences and artists and forming an allied community based upon understanding through our art.

We provide the lgbtqike community with a comfortable and inviting environment to engage and learn about all facets of art, sex and gender through cutting edge art work, literature, and media that explores one’s gender, sexuality, social issues, wellness, creativity, identity, family and kink. We strive to provide the community with groundbreaking events that feature women and transgendered artists that push preconceived boundaries, raise awareness, and social change. Ultimately, we are creating a space for women and transgender persons to dialogue, create art, exhibit their creativity, to participate in cross generational artistic dialogues through a variety of artistic mediums including literature, film, dance, theater, spoken word, music, and visual art. Femina Potens is an incubator for growth, bringing together emerging and established artists on the same stage. We strive to bring visibility to a diverse group of artists from different economic, ethnic, social, gendered, and sexual backgrounds and identities. We will present work that is accessible to persons of all economic backgrounds. We will honor and create space and provide guidance for the process of creation.  We will provide resources community connection, and educational opportunities for persons of all ages from queer families with infants to seniors.  We will reach beyond our safe bubble of San Francisco to those that are seeking a voice and community connection.
