Newsletter #31 - December 2011

Autumn has been a busy season for Femina Potens; we curated the six-artist collaborative gallery show‘Building Our Own White Picket Fences’, started a brand new series of youth art classes in conjunction with LYRIC and hosted the elegant kink night A Taste of Rope, alongside plenty of other fabulous programming.
In the coming winter months we won’t be slowing down one bit!  We have a limited-edition art book and DVD in the works to showcase the full story of last month’s installations.  We are currently structuring programming for FP Los Angeles and FP New York– keep your eyes peeled for FP events in your city starting in 2012!
This December, Femina Potens brings many more art, family, community and kink events to the Bay and beyond.  Mark your calendars for A Taste of Rope in Sacramento and Velvet’s PlayShop, an educational erotica workshop run by Madison Young.  We continue our youth art classes, art exhibits at Blue Dahlia and LYON Martin, and queer family community groups.  Come January, get ready for the return of our very popular Art of Restraint with an all-star cast of performers!
Cozy up with some cocoa and read on for our full schedule…

Art Youth Classes at LYRIC
Femina Potens is thrilled to announce that our FP Family & Youth Program has paired up with queer youth organization LYRIC to teach art, film, and writing courses every Monday starting October 17th – May 2012. Our course consists of 7 queer youth and will conclude with a screening of a documentary on the program, a gallery exhibit, and written works created by the youth during the program. We will be updating you monthly on our youth’s progress.
Thus far the program has brought in queer artists such as Nomy Lamm, Sadie Lune, Casey Castille, Mel Reiff and Hillary Goldberg to explore such issues as body image, mental health and wellness, self care and relationships, through visual art, writing, and film.
We are seeking donations to support the teachers involved with this program.  So far, the classes have been hosted by many fantastic artists, and the youth involved are excited by and dedicated to the course.  Please help us continue to bring the Bay Area’s best teachers to work with LYRIC youth:
